WACA transformation: Reimagining an Australian sporting icon

From infrastructure to experience

The WACA Ground reopened in February 2026 after a $189 million redevelopment, reborn as a boutique, multi-sport and community venue. SureVision LED is part of its new era.

The challenge

The WACA has been the home of cricket in Western Australia for more than 130 years. The task was to keep everything that makes it special, including international cricket accreditation, while turning it into a place people use all year round, not just on match days.

The design

The redeveloped WACA is a 10,000-seat boutique stadium built for cricket and multi-sport use, surrounded by a precinct designed for the whole community:

  • A resort-style aquatic centre with a 50-metre outdoor pool, water slides and learn-to-swim facilities
  • A high-performance centre with a 10-lane indoor cricket and training facility
  • A public health and fitness centre
  • A revitalised museum celebrating more than 130 years of cricket history
  • A public café and function spaces
  • An all-abilities playground, sensory rooms and an integrated Aboriginal cultural narrative

The technology

SureVision LED brings the action to every corner of the ground, carrying scores, replays, match-day content and partner messaging for players, members and fans.

Integration

In a venue that hosts international cricket one day and community sport the next, the screens have to work for every kind of event. The LED is designed to sit naturally within the new architecture and adapt to whatever is on.

Fan experience

A smaller, boutique ground puts fans closer to the action. Clear, bright LED makes every moment easy to follow, from the first ball to the last, whether fans are in the stands or on the grass embankment.

Commercial opportunity

A year-round precinct means more events, more visitors and more reasons for partners to be there. LED gives the WACA flexible, high-impact inventory that can be updated in an instant and tailored to every audience.
